York Road Phase 4 - Update Wednesday, July 3, 2024
Phase 4 of the York Road Reconstruction is approximately 80% complete.
This phase included some of the largest and most significant infrastructure improvements of the entire project, some of the major improvements included a
- Key drainage channel on the north end of the City; and
- Large box culverts were installed across York Road to improve stormwater removal from many inner City areas.
There were some challenges due to the CN railโs proximity to one of the Cityโs largest drainage structures. Where large-diameter culverts and sanitary sewers had to be installed underneath the existing railway. The sanitary sewer under the main rail crossing had to be directionally drilled to allow rail traffic during construction.
Completion is expected as soon as possible, but recent wet weather has caused some delays. The remaining roadway work is expected to be completed in the next couple of weeks, weather permitting.
