York Road Reconstruction
The City of Yorkton has partnered with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Highways and Infrastructure (part of the Urban Highway Connector Program) for the reconstruction of York Road from Gladstone Avenue to Highway 9.
Phases 1, 2, and 3 are now complete, and the roadway will be open from Highway 9 to Second Avenue North.
Phase 4 is starting in the spring of 2024 (April 1st, 2024). This phase is expected to take approximately two and half months to complete, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.
Road closures along York Road are now from First Avenue North to Myrtel Avenue, with a detour in place on Second Avenue for local traffic and vehicles accessing businesses along York Road.

Proposed Project Includes:
- Complete road reconstruction in two phases including new road surface / structure and new curbing.
- Drainage upgrades to the Victoria Avenue crossing, including ditch improvements, upgrading culverts, upgrading crossing under York Road (this was called “North-Central Drainage Channel Upgrades” in the Flood Mitigation Presentation to Council in January 2017).
- Sanitary sewer upgrades (approximately 1,100 meters of new pipe).
- Storm sewer upgrades (approximately 2,000 meters of new pipe).
The estimated cost for this project is $16,800,000

Phase 2 of the York Road Reconstruction project is now underway. Phase 1A is complete, but the roadway will not be open to traffic for approximately two weeks, until Phase 1B is complete.
Road closures along York Road are extended to 4th Avenue North, with a detour in place on Imperial Street for local traffic and vehicles accessing businesses along York Road.
Temporary roadway access has been made to Heartland Livestock, Leon’s Manufacturing, and Nutrien AG Solutions as they begin work on Phase 2 of the project.
Phase 2 is expected to take approximately three months to complete, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.

York Road Phase 1 Update
The York Road construction project is moving along nicely. Phase 1A is almost complete and ready for reopening. Underground utilities have been upgraded and the new curbing is complete, with paving in the fogging and curing stage followed by line painting.
Phase 1B of the project has the contractors currently working on underground utilities. The road is dug up and the installation of new sewer and water pipes is in the works. In the photos you can see the installation of a large diameter pipe to help with drainage during rainfalls, and also they are working on upgraded sanitary sewer. Both systems will have increased capacity for the future.
Businesses along York Road are also receiving upgraded water and sewer connections to their property.

The awarded contractor, Ungar Construction Co. Ltd., has began to make temporary roadway access to Yorkton Concrete Ltd., EECOL Electric, and Quality Tire Service as they begin work on Phase 1A of York Road.
Road closures will tentatively begin tonight, Thursday, May 11, 2023 from Highway 9 to Dracup Ave. Temporary business access and detour signs will be posted along the construction site.
Phase 1A is expected to take approximately four weeks, weather permitting and barring any unforeseen circumstances.
