Outdoor Basketball Courts

The Outdoor Basketball Courts project builds on the City’s long-term vision to enhance recreation opportunities across Yorkton. Originally planned as part of the Columbia Park Development, the project has evolved to focus specifically on the construction of new outdoor basketball courts. Following detailed design work and further assessment, it was determined that drainage challenges make Columbia Park an unsuitable location for development at this time. As a result, the approved project funding will be redirected to construct two new dual-court basketball facilities in other existing park spaces throughout the city. Community input will help guide the selection of these locations in early 2026, with tendering and construction planned to follow later in the year.

  • Community Engagement- May 21-June 4th

After meeting with key stakeholders to gather early input and help shape the vision for the project, we are now moving into the community engagement phase.

The project is exploring the development of two outdoor basketball court complexes. One proposed complex would include a full range of amenities, such as lighting, seating, shade structures, and other supporting features to enhance user comfort and accessibility. The second proposed complex would be developed with amenities that are dependent on final project scope, budget, and community priorities.

Community engagement is an important next step and will help us better understand how residents would like to use these spaces, what features matter most to them, and how the project can best support recreation opportunities in Yorkton. Feedback gathered during this phase will help inform the final design and overall project direction.

Next steps include gathering public input, reviewing community feedback, and refining the project scope for both proposed complexes.
