October 13, 2026: Major Funding Announced for Wastewater Treatment Plant Renewal

On October 13, 2026, the City of Yorkton joined the Governments of Canada and Saskatchewan to announce a $50 million funding commitment for Phase 1 of the Water Pollution Control Plant Renewal Project, through the Canada Housing Infrastructure Fund (CHIF).

The funding includes:

  • $20 million from the Government of Canada

  • $16.665 million from the Government of Saskatchewan

  • $13.335 million from the City of Yorkton

This investment will allow the City to move forward with Phase 1, including construction and upgrades to the headworks facility at the H.M. Bailey Water Pollution Control Plant.

The improvements will help increase wastewater treatment capacity, improve environmental performance and support future residential, commercial and industrial growth in Yorkton.

This is a significant milestone for the project, which the City has been planning and advancing since 2017.

While the funding supports Phase 1, additional work and funding will be required to complete the overall renewal project.
