Who can apply? 

Either the property owner or the tenant can apply.

The tax abatement is applied to the property taxes regardless of who applies and will show on the tax notice.

If a tenant applies and pays for renovations, the tenant should have a written agreement with the property owner about how the abatement will be used.


Do partial vacancies qualify?

Yes. If only part of a building is vacant, the abatement can apply to the vacant part only if approved.


What types of properties qualify?

Both commercial and industrial properties can qualify for the Tax Abetment.

  • building plans or drawings
  • renderings or mock-ups
  • photos of the space now
  • photos of similar completed work, if available
  • the materials you plan to use


Does the City keep a list of vacant commercial spaces for sale or rent?
No. The City does not maintain a list of vacant commercial spaces for sale or rent. We recommend contacting a local real estate agent listed in the Business Directory to help with your search.


Can the abatement be used to pay off past-due taxes?

No. To qualify, property taxes must be current. The property cannot have arrears (past-due taxes).
