Dalebrooke Drive 2025 Water Main Replacement Program

The City of Yorkton is committed to renewing ageing infrastructure with a strategic and cost-effective approach. In 2025, Dalebrooke Drive will undergo a full infrastructure renewal project, focusing on essential upgrades to water, sewer, stormwater, and surface infrastructure.

Why This Project Matters

Dalebrooke Drive, between Broadway Street and Lakeview Road, has been prioritized for renewal due to:

A high rate of water main breaks
Aging water and sewer infrastructure
A confirmed collapse in the sanitary sewer system

These issues significantly increase the risk of service disruption for homes and businesses. By addressing the corridor as a whole, we improve reliability, reduce long-term costs, and minimize the need for future disruptive repairs.

What's Included in the Project

Water Distribution Upgrades

Replacement of a 150 mm water main (installed in 1962) with a new 200 mm PVC pipe
Abandonment of a second 200 mm main (installed in 1975)
New water service connections to each property
Replacement of valves and hydrants
Installation of a temporary water system to maintain service throughout construction

Dalebrooke Drive has experienced over 7 times the national average for water main breaks. Upgrading the water system will significantly improve reliability for nearby homes and businesses.

Sewer System Replacement

Replacement of a collapsed 300 mm clay tile sewer main (installed in 1961) with a 375 mm PVC pipe
Improvements based on CCTV inspection showing severe deterioration, deformation, and cracking

This sewer main plays a critical role, serving both residential neighbourhoods and high-traffic commercial areas, including the Painted Hand Casino. Replacing it now prevents future system failures and public health risks.

Surface and Stormwater Improvements

Full roadway reconstruction
New curbs and sidewalks
Upgraded stormwater infrastructure

By renewing all components at once, we reduce costs and avoid future disruptions.

Investment & Cost

The total project cost is $2.98 million, with funding coming from several capital programs:

Funding SourceAmount
Water Main Replacement Program$1,256,565
Sewer Main Replacement Program$412,251
Dalebrooke Intersection Capital Project$500,000
Road Infrastructure Improvements$810,992
Total$2,979,809

The construction contract was awarded to G. Ungar Construction Ltd. through a public tender process.

Planning for the Future

This project is part of a larger “Corridor Management” strategy that looks at water, sewer, and roadway infrastructure as interconnected systems. It reflects the City’s commitment to proactive planning through the Water System Master Plan and broader Utility Master Plan, which guide investments through 2045.

Yorkton maintains approximately 300 km of water and sewer mains, and nearly 20 km have already exceeded their intended lifespan. Projects like this ensure safe, reliable service today—and into the future.

What to Expect During Construction

Construction is expected to begin in 2025. Ahead of the work:

The City will notify all affected residents and businesses.
A temporary water system will be set up to avoid service interruptions.
Work will be completed as efficiently as possible to minimize disruption.

Thank you for your patience and support as we continue to invest in Yorkton’s future.
