2026 Hydrant Flushing
The City of Yorkton’s annual unidirectional water main and hydrant flushing program begins in September.
Hydrant flushing is an important part of maintaining the City’s water distribution system. Crews systematically flush sections of water main through hydrants to help remove accumulated sediment, maintain water quality and ensure water infrastructure is operating properly.
What residents may notice
While crews are flushing water mains in your neighbourhood, you may temporarily experience:
- Discoloured or cloudy water
- Changes in water pressure
- Water flowing from hydrants
- City crews working around hydrants and water infrastructure
These temporary changes are a normal part of the flushing process.
What should I do if my water is discoloured?
If you notice discoloured or cloudy water, run your cold water tap until the water becomes clear.
Residents may also wish to avoid doing laundry while flushing is taking place in their area, as discoloured water may temporarily affect clothing.
If water does not clear after running the cold water for a period of time, please contact the City of Yorkton.
2026 Hydrant Flushing Schedule
Crews will work through different areas of Yorkton.
The schedule is approximate and may change due to weather, emergency repairs or other operational requirements.

Why does the City flush water mains?
Over time, naturally occurring sediment can collect within water mains.
Unidirectional flushing uses a controlled flow of water through sections of the distribution system to help:
- Remove accumulated sediment
- Maintain water quality
- Maintain proper flow through the water system
- Check the operation of hydrants and valves
- Support ongoing maintenance of the City’s water infrastructure

Hydrant Flushing Update – September 11
The map above shows the latest progress on the City’s water main and hydrant flushing program. The area marked in green is what has been completed through September 10.
The areas scheduled for the flushing program today, September 11, 2026 are as follows:
- Heath Court
- Darlington Street East
- Dracup Avenue
- Smith Street East
- Franko Drive
- Weinmaster Street
- Broadway Street East (east of Dracup)
For Saturday, September 12, the following areas are scheduled to be flushed:
- Russell Drive
- Erichsen Drive
- Fietz Street
- Fenson Crescent
Crews will continue moving through the area as work progresses. Timing and locations may change based on weather, emergency repairs or other operational requirements.
