Transit Shelters Are Changing

As we get closer to the launch of the new Yorkton Transit system, residents will start to see changes to transit stops and shelters around the City.

During October and November 2026, some transit shelters will be removed or relocated. Other key shelters will stay where they are. This work is part of the move from the current fixed-route system to the new on-demand service.

A shelter may be removed, but the stop is still active.

If a shelter is removed this fall, it does not mean the bus will stop serving that location.

Yorkton Transit will continue using the current fixed routes and stops until December 31, 2026. If a shelter is removed from an existing stop, riders can continue catching the bus at that stop at the regular scheduled times. The only difference is that the shelter will no longer be there.

Shelter removals are taking place ahead of the new service because fewer permanent shelters will be needed once the on-demand system begins. City planning has identified several shelters for removal while keeping key shelters in service.

More Places to Utilize Transit

Today, Yorkton Transit uses 28 stops along fixed routes. With the new system, riders will have access to more than 150 stops across the City.

Starting January 1, 2027, Yorkton Transit will move from fixed routes to the new Blaise on-demand system. Instead of buses following the same route throughout the day, service will respond to rider trip requests.

This will give riders many more places to access transit across Yorkton and provide more flexibility in where and when they travel.
