Park Street Pumping Station Rehabilitation
Enhancing Yorkton’s Water Storage for the Future
The City of Yorkton is reinvesting in critical water infrastructure through the phased rehabilitation of the Park Street Pumping Station (PSPS). Originally constructed in 1969 and decommissioned in 2011, the Park Street Reservoir will soon be brought back online, adding 1 million gallons (4,550 m³) of potable water storage to the City’s supply system.
This project supports long-term water security, emergency preparedness, and industrial growth—all while maintaining compliance with provincial regulations and national best practices.
Why This Matters
With ongoing industrial expansion in Yorkton, the City’s average daily demand (ADD) for potable water is projected to rise to approximately 12,528 m³/day. Without increased storage, Yorkton would fall short of the required fire protection standards outlined by the Water Security Agency.
Reactivating the Park Street Reservoir:
Increases total storage to 30,550 m³
Provides 2.19 days of emergency supply
Meets regulatory storage requirements
Supports system resiliency and fire flow capacity
Avoids the high cost of constructing a new reservoir
What’s Included in the Project
The Park Street Pumping Station Rehabilitation is being delivered in five coordinated phases:
Contract 1: Underground Infrastructure (In Progress)
Construction of a new 12" PVC water feeder main and a sanitary sewer service from the future pump station location to the existing water and sewer systems on Park Street
This work is being completed internally by the City and is currently approximately 50% complete.
Contract 2: Process Mechanical
Installation of internal mechanical piping, valve systems, and reservoir connection works
Under-slab piping is targeted for completion by July 11, 2025.
Contract 3: Building Structure
Construction of a new structural enclosure, including foundation system, concrete slab, framing, insulation, cladding, doors, and roofing.
Scheduled to be completed by October 2025.
Contract 4: Electrical Design-Build
Upgrade and integration of electrical systems, including new Motor Control Centres (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and SCADA programming.
Contract 5: Site and Civil Restoration (Planned)
Restoration of Peeker Park, including surface works and landscaping
Work will be completed by City forces in spring 2026
How This Aligns with Our Vision
This project directly supports Yorkton’s:
2020 Strategic Plan: Invests in core infrastructure and emergency preparedness
Official Community Plan: Enables long-term water servicing and asset renewal
Fiscal Responsibility: Maximizes value through reuse of existing infrastructure
How This Affects You
Residents and park users should be aware that walking and roadway access on Park Street between Agricultural Avenue and Laurier Avenue will be restricted for much of the 2025 construction season. These limitations are necessary to support this project and other nearby infrastructure improvements in the area. Please follow all posted signage and detours during this time.
